HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
grant Letters Patent under "The Patents Act,
1860," in favour of
EDWIN WILLIAM TRENT,
of Christchurch, in the Province of Canterbury,
Proprietor of Steam Coffee Works, for an Invention
of a Machine to be applied to the purpose of cleaning
New Zealand Flax, or Phormium Tenax, and all other
fibrous plants indigenous to New Zealand, by
separating the vegetable gum from the fibre thereof,
and rendering the same fit for manufacture into rope,
and all purposes for which hemp is ordinarily used.
