To make this Total agree with the Number (218,668) previously published in the Tables of Census Results as the Population of New Zealand in December, 1867, it is necessary to add the Population
of the Chatham Islands, viz., 184.

† In Otago, the Return for "Hay" includes a large quantity of Oats cut for Hay, principally in the Dunedin Suburban Districts.
