NOTES.
Mongonui. Fine weather during the month.
Auckland. Strong W. and S.W. winds, from 1st to 3rd; on the 8th, a violent gale from N. Fine weather on the whole;
slight rainfall.
Taranaki. Strong wind on 6th and 7th, from N.W.; earthquake on 15th at 4 p.m.; several very slight shocks occurred.
Napier. Very strong N.W. wind on morning of 7th; fine clear weather, very dry; unusually slight rainfall; eighteen days of
N.E. wind.
Wellington. Very stormy weather during the month, there were twenty-one days of N.W. wind, and several very strong gales,
especially on the 6th, 13th and 22nd; thunder on the 31st; altogether very unpleasant weather throughout. Slight earth-
quake on 21st.
Nelson.-
Christchurch. Very stormy weather at this station, chiefly from N.W.; not much rain; thunder on the 1st; lightning on the
4th and 30th.
Hokitika. Storm on the 1st from S.W., with thunder and lightning, also hail; strong N.W. wind on 6th, with thunder, light-
ning, hail, and heavy rain; strong again on 7th; strong N.E. wind on 17th; hail on the 8th and 9th; fog on the 15th;
heavy rainfall, and, on the whole, severe weather.
Dunedin. Strong wind on 1st and 2nd from S.W., with rain; hail on the 1st; storm from N.W. on 30th; thunder on 25th,
11th, and 31st; hail also on 31st. Dry weather.
Southland. The weather at this station was very cold, stormy, and wet; wind chiefly from N.W.; snow on 11th; five days of
thunder; unusually heavy rainfall; twenty-one days of N.W. wind.

GENERAL REMARKS.
The weather throughout the Colony was unusually severe during this month; the temperature in most cases was below the
average; the rainfall was moderate, but there occurred very severe storms in both Islands, chiefly from the north-west.
