TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME,
GREETING:

WHEREAS by "The Regulation of Elections
Act, 1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor, by warrant under his hand, from
time to time to appoint polling places for each
Electoral District, within or without the limits
thereof, and to appoint any one of such places to be
the principal polling place for the district, and all
or any of such polling places at any time to abolish,
and to appoint other polling places in lieu thereof:
And whereas, by warrant under the hand of the
Governor, certain places were appointed polling
places and principal polling places for the election
of Superintendent and Members of the Provincial
Council of the Province of Canterbury for the
Districts of Timaru, Seadown, Geraldine, Waitangi,
and Waimate:

And whereas it is expedient to abolish the same :
Now know ye that I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance of the
power and authority in me vested by the said Act, do
hereby abolish the above-named polling places and
principal polling places for the above-named districts
for the election of Superintendent and Members of
the Provincial Council of the Province of Canter-
bury, and do appoint in lieu thereof—

For the District of Timaru—
Resident Magistrate's Court, Timaru.
For the District of Seadown—
Resident Magistrate's Court, Timaru.
For the District of Geraldine—
Resident Magistrate's Court, Arowhenua.
Mr. Cox's Woolshed, Raukapuka.
For the District of Waitangi---
Messrs. Matson and Spenser's Woolshed,
Mountnessing.
Mr. Herbert Meyer's Woolshed, Waitangi.
Mr. Francis Jollie's Woolshed, near Geraldine.
For the District of Waimate--
Resident Magistrate's Court, Waimate.

And I do further appoint the following places to
be the principal polling places for the said districts,
viz.:—

For the District of Timaru—
Resident Magistrate's Court, Timaru.
For the District of Seadown---
Resident Magistrate's Court, Timaru.
For the District of Geraldine—
Resident Magistrate's Court, Arowhenua.
For the District of Waitangi—
Messrs. Matson and Spenser's Woolshed,
Mountnessing.
For the District of Waimate—
Resident Magistrate's Court, Waimate.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order
of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same, at the Government
House, at Wellington, this twenty-fourth
day of February, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
nine.

SIR,—With reference to the Duke of Buckingham's
Despatch No. 127, of 1st December, I avail myself of
the earliest opportunity, after receiving the Seals of
this Department, of expressing my entire concur-
rence in so much of my predecessor's instructions as
required the immediate departure of the Troops now
remaining in New Zealand on the arrival of the
"Himalaya."
