A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously
pleased by Letters-Patent under the Great Seal
of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland,
bearing date at Westminster, the fourteenth day of
November, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
seven, to constitute and appoint me, Sir George
Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George,
to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over
the Colony of New Zealand: Now, I, the Governor
and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby pro-
claim and declare that I have this day taken the
prescribed Oaths before His Honour Alexander
James Johnston, one of the Judges of the Supreme
Court of the said Colony, in the absence of the Chief
Court of the said Colony, in the absence of the Chief
and that I have assumed the said Office of Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Colony of
New Zealand, under and by virtue of Her Majesty's
said Commission.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
St. Michael and St. George, Governor
and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her
Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies, at the Government House,
at Wellington, and issued under the Seal
of the said Colony, this fifth day of
February, one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-eight.

HIS Excellency the Governor will hold a Levee in
the Chamber of the House of Representatives
on Saturday the eighth instant, at two o'clock in
the afternoon. Gentlemen attending the Levee will
wear official dress, uniform, or evening costume, and
are requested to provide themselves with two cards
with their names legibly written thereon; one card
to be left on the table at the entrance door, and the
other to be given to the Private Secretary.

HIS Excellency the Governor directs it to be made
known, for general information, that he will
receive all persons who may wish to see him, on
Wednesday and Saturday in every week, between
the hours of Eleven a.m. and Two p.m.
At the same time, His Excellency desires that it
may be clearly understood that public officers, and
gentlemen from the country, or any other persons
wishing to communicate with him personally on
business which will admit of no delay, will be received
on any day, or at any hour that he may happen to be
at home.
