Houses Act, 1868," aforesaid.

Lord one thousand eight hundred and

WHEREAS by "The Public Houses Act, 1868,"
it is enacted that whenever the Colonial Forces
shall be employed for the purpose of suppressing
rebellion or other disturbances in any part of the
Colony, and shall be stationed at any place near to
or within such part, it shall be lawful for the
Governor, from time to time by Proclamation, to
declare that from and after a day to be fixed therein
such part of the Colony as shall be defined in the
Proclamation shall be a Proclaimed District within
the meaning and for the purposes of the said Act,
and thereupon it shall not be lawful for any person,
whether holding a license under any Act or Ordi-
nance regulating the sale of wine, ale, beer, or spirits,
or not, to sell or supply any wine, beer, or spirituous
or fermented liquors of any kind, without the per-
mission of such person as the Governor shall from
time to time appoint to grant permits for the sale of
such articles within such district:
And whereas by a Proclamation bearing even date
herewith His Excellency the Governor, in pursuance
and exercise of the powers and authorities for that
purpose vested in him, hath proclaimed and declared
that all that part of the Colony situated in the
Provinces of Wellington and Taranaki, whereof the
boundaries are as follows:-The sea coast from the
mouth of the River Waitotara to the mouth of the
River Hangatahua, thence the River Hangatahua to
its source, thence a straight line to the summit of
Mount Egmont, thence a straight line to the source
of the River Waitotara, thence the River Waitotara
to the commencing point at its mouth-should from
and after the twenty-fourth day of September,
be a Proclaimed District within the meaning and for
the purposes of the said Act:
Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of New Zealand, in pursuance of the
power and authority for that purpose vested in me, do
hereby appoint
JAMES BOOTH, Esq., R.M.,
to be the person who may grant permits for the sale of
wine, ale, beer, or spirits within the said Proclaimed
District.

NOTICE is hereby given, that an application has
been made to His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, by Henry Augustus
Severn, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria,
praying for the grant to him, the said Henry
Augustus Severn, of Letters Patent under the Seal
of the said Colony, for the exclusive use, advantage,
and enjoyment of a new invention of a machine
called "A Gold and Mercury Saving and Amalga-
mating Machine:" And notice is hereby given, that
any person who may wish to prefer any objections
to the granting of such Letters Patent is hereby
required, within four calendar months from the publi-
cation of this notice, to send to the office of John
Boyle Bennett, Esquire, Registrar-General, at
Wellington, in the Province of Wellington, in the
said Colony of New Zealand (being the person
appointed for that purpose under the provisions of
"The Patent Act, 1860"), a statement, in writing,
showing the grounds of such objection, and subscribed
with the proper name and address of the person so
objecting.

I, the undersigned CHARLES STICHBURY, hereby
make application to register "The Auckland Gold
Mining and Quartz Crushing Company, Registered,"
under the provisions of "The Mining Companies
Limited Liability Act, 1865," and I do solemnly and
sincerely declare that the following statement is, to
the best of my knowledge and belief, true in every
particular, namely
:-
- The name and style of the Company is "The
Auckland Gold Mining and Quartz Crushing Com-
pany, Registered." - The place of operations is the Thames Goldfield,
in the Province of Auckland. - The nominal capital of the Company is five
thousand pounds in five hundred shares of ten pounds
each. - The amount already paid up is two thousand
three hundred and eighty pounds. - The name of the manager is Charles Stichbury.
- The office of the Company is at Stichbury's
Buildings, Queen-street, Auckland. - The names and several residences of the share-
holders, and the number of shares held by cach at
this date, are as follows :-
