provisions of the said last-mentioned Act shall apply
to the elections of Superintendents and Members of
Provincial Councils :

Now therefore I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the
Governor of the said Colony, in pursuance of the
power and authority in me vested by the said Acts, do
hereby appoint the following places to be additional
polling places for the districts of Oreti and Otera-
mika, for the election of Members of the Provincial
Council of the Province of Southland, viz.:β€”

For the District of Oreti :
The House of Cuthbert Cowan, Esq., Hokanui.

For the District of Oteramika :
Mr. Jas. Gall's House, Waihopa Downs.

And I do further appoint the polling place at the
house of Cuthbert Cowan, Esq., Hokanui, to be the
principal polling place for the said district of Oreti.

Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-

WHEREAS by virtue of an Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The
Native Lands Act, 1867," the Governor may at his
discretion refer to the Native Lands Court the claim
of any person to, or any question affecting the title
'to or interest of any such person in land within the
boundaries described in the second Schedule to the
said Act, being the boundaries described in a certain
deed of sale to the Crown, bearing date the
thirteenth day of December, one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-six, and expressed to be a con-
veyance by Natives entitled to land within the
district excepted from the operation of "The Native
Lands Act, 1865," by section eighty-two thereof:
Provided that no claim by and no question relating
to the title or interest of any Native who shall have
signed the said deed of sale shall be so referred:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen,
the Governor of New Zealand, in exercise of the
powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby refer
to the Native Lands Court the claims which are
named in the Schedule hereunto attached, being
claims for lands within the boundaries aforesaid of
Natives who have not signed the said deed of sale.

Governor and Commander-in-Chief in

Makowhai Commencing at the mouth of Makowhai, thence by that river to the Taurarua Stream, thence by that stream to Rawiri te Wanui's boundary, thence to Totarataepa, thence to the northward along the boundary of Ngatikauwhata to Te Punapo- kororo, thence to Rangitikei to Te Pora, thence by the Rangitikei River to the mouth of the Makowhai Stream at the com- mencing point.
Wiriharai Te Angiangi and others Kaikokopu Commencing at Parakaia's and Hare Hemi's post on the inland side of Paepae, thence seawards to Hare Hemi's boundary on the coast, thence by the coast to Pukepuke, the boundary which has been surveyed for Rawiri te Wanui (Kakanui), thence by that line to Kakahuera, thence to Omanukaka, thence south- wards to Parakaia's post inland of Te Paepae.
Henere Te Waiatua and others Oroua Commencing at Te Puta, thence to the eastward to Whakamoe- takapu Paeroa, Te Papauku, thence to the castward, Umutoi Oroua, thence to the southward down the Oroua to Pariroa, Te Ruapuka, thence westward to Makino, and on to the com- mencement at Te Puta.

IN conformity with the provisions of "The Muni-
cipal Corporations Act, 1867," the following
Petition from inhabitant householders of Timaru for
the Town of Timaru to be constituted a Borough,
and letter of assent from the Superintendent of
Canterbury, are published for general information,
and it is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor will consider the Petition on the 1st of
June next.
