the offices of the General Government with Coal, in
such quantities as may be required, for the twelve
months commencing the first April next. The rates
per ton to be specified for best English Coal, screened
and delivered at the public offices in 1 cwt. bags;
for best Newcastle, N.S.W., Coal, screened and
delivered at the public offices in 1 cwt. bags; and for
best New Zealand Coal, screened and delivered at
the public offices in 1 cwt. bags.

the offices of the General Government with Firewood,
(Rata or Manuka), in one or two feet lengths, cut
and split, at per cord, in such quantities as may be
required, for the twelve months commencing first
April next, to be delivered at the public offices.

TENDERS for binding Gazettes, Books, and other
Documents for the Government during the
twelve calendar months commencing the first April,
1868, will be received at this office until noon of
Wednesday, the eighteenth instant. A bond, the
contractor in the sum of £250, and two approved
sureties £250 each, for the due performance of the
contract will be required to be entered into within
a month of the acceptance of the contract.
The Tenders should specify the price per volume
for the following Books, viz. :—
Demy folio books, 4 quires and under:—Half-bound,
rough calf, cloth sides, gilt lettered on back,
short title and date.
For every additional quire.
Mscap folio:—Half-bound calf, cloth sides, gilt
lettered on back, short title and date.
For every additional quire.

IN addition to the Instructions published in the
New Zealand Gazette of the 1st day of May, 1867,
the following Instructions are published for the
guidance of Customs Officers, Magistrates, and
others in conducting Investigations under "The
Inquiry into Wrecks Act, 1863."

(in the absence of the Postmaster-General.)

  1. Where any investigation is likely to affect the
    character of an engineer of a steamer, one or more
    Engineering Assessors should be appointed. ("Mer-
    chant Shipping Act Amendment Act, 1862," section
    23, subsection 5.)
  2. When questions involve nautical or engineering
    skill, more than one Assessor may be appointed.
    (Same section and sub-section as above.)
  3. The power of suspending or cancelling certifi-
    cates, either of Masters, Mates, or Engineers is
    vested in the Court by which the case is investigated,
    and that Court must consequently decide that the
    certificate in question shall be suspended for a given
    time, or cancelled, as the case may be, and state such
    decision in open Court; any mere recommendation
    that the certificate be suspended or cancelled is not
    legal. ("Merchant Shipping Act Amendment Act,
    1862," section 23, subsections 1 and 3.)
