eight hundred and sixty-one, the said Colony was for
the purposes of the said Act divided into three dis-
tricts, to be called respectively the Northern District,
the Middle District, and the Southern District, which
said districts are particularly described in the said
proclamation. And whereas by a proclamation
bearing date the twelfth day of October, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-five, the limits of the said
"Middle District" were altered for the purpose of
forming the "Westland District:" And whereas it
is expedient for the purposes of the said Act that the
said "Middle District" should be further divided
into two districts, to be called, respectively the
"Nelson District" and the "Wellington District."
And whereas by the said Act it is further enacted
that the Governor in Council shall assign every such
district as aforesaid to a Judge or Judges of the
Court, who shall have within the same all the powers
and jurisdiction thereby given to the Court. And
whereas by the said proclamations of the twenty-
sixth day of February, one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-one, and the twelfth day of October, one
thousand eight hundred and sixty-five, the said
"Middle" and "Westland Districts" were res-
pectively assigned to Alexander James Johnston and
Henry Barnes Gresson, Esquires, Judges of the said
Court. And whereas by the said Act it was further
enacted that there shall be held Circuit Courts for
the despatch of civil and criminal business of the
Court, before one of the Judges thereof, at such
places and times as the Governor in Council may
from time to time appoint. And whereas by the
said recited proclamation of the twelfth day of
October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five,
and a proclamation bearing date the thirteenth day of
April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three,
and a proclamation bearing date the seventh day of
October instant, certain times and places were
appointed for holding Circuit Courts as aforesaid
within the said "Westland" and "Middle" dis-
tricts: And whereas it is expedient to alter the
dates on which such Courts have been appointed to
be held:
Now therefore, I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
of New Zealand, in pursuance of the power and
authority for this purpose vested in me under and by
virtue of the said Act, do hereby, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
Colony, proclaim and declare the Provinces of
Wellington and Hawke's Bay to be a separate
Judicial District, for the purposes of the said Act, to
be called the "Wellington District," and the Pro-
vinces of Nelson and Marlborough, excepting such
part of the Province of Nelson as is comprised within
the "Westland District," to be a separate Judicial
District for the purposes of the said Act, to be called
the "Nelson District;" and in further pursuance
and exercise of the power and authority vested in
me by the said Act, I do hereby, by and with the
advice and consent aforesaid, proclaim and declare that
I assign the said "Wellington District" to Alexander
James Johnston, Esquire, acting Chief Justice
of the said Court, and the said "Westland" and
"Nelson" districts to Christopher William Rich-
mond, Esquire, a Judge of the said Court; and that
Circuit Courts shall be holden for the "Wellington
District" at the places therein heretofore appointed
for the holding of Circuit Courts, and at the times so
