WELLINGTON, MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1867.

G. GREY, Governor.

Governor's Order, No. 82.

IN exercise of the power in me for this purpose
vested by "The Customs Regulation Act, 1858,"
I, Sir George Grey, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby appoint that the Port of
Brighton shall be a Warehousing Port for the
purpose of "The Customs Regulation Act, 1858,"
and do hereby approve of the same as a Port for the
importation of Tobacco.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Grey, Knight Commander of
the Most Honorable Order of the Bath,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and dated
at Wellington, this seventh day of
October, one thousand eight hundred and
sixty-seven.

J. C. RICHMOND.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 18th October, 1867.

THE following Despatch from the Secretary of
State for the Colonies, is published for general
information, pointing out that Foreigners naturalized
in New Zealand, who may be desirous of travelling in
Europe, should, before leaving the Colony, provide
themselves with some official evidence of their
identity and description.

E. W. STAFFORD.

[CIRCULAR, NEW ZEALAND.]

Downing Street, 25th April, 1867.

SIR,β€”With reference to the Circular Despatch
from this Department dated the fifth of June, 1866,
relative to the case of Foreigners naturalized in any
of Her Majesty's Colonies who wish to obtain British
passports for foreign travel, I have the honor to
inform you that different cases have occurred lately

in which such naturalized Foreigners have applied
in this Country for passports, without being in
possession either of a passport from the Governor or
of any official document from the Colony to establish
their identity and character. You will readily perceive
that this is calculated to embarrass this Department,
and also to cause much private inconvenience to the
persons concerned if they should find themselves
unable to produce any sufficient evidence of their
quality.

I have therefore to suggest that, in every Colony
containing naturalized Foreigners who are likely to
travel in Europe, it would be convenient that notice
should from time to time be given in public news-
papers, of the necessity for such persons providing
themselves before leaving the Colony with some
official evidence of their identity and description.

I have, &c.,
BUCKINGHAM AND CHANDOS.

Governor Sir George Grey, K.C.B.
&c., &c., &c.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 18th October, 1867.

IT is hereby notified that

JAMES DU PRE LANCE, Esq.,
JOHN CHARLES WATTS RUSSELL, Esq.,
WILLIAM SWAINSON, Esq., and
JOHN PARKIN TAYLOR, Esq.,

having for two successive sessions of the General
Assembly, without the permission of Her Majesty,
or of the Governor, signified by the Governor to the
Legislative Council, failed to give their attendance in
the said Legislative Council, their respective seats in
such Council have thereby become vacant.

E. W. STAFFORD.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 18th October, 1867.

THE following Ordinance passed by the Provincial
Council of the Province of Canterbury, intituled
"Cam Bridge Ordinance;"

ERRATA.β€”In Gazette No. 48. of the 30th September, 1867, in the Notification of the Sale of the Waitara Township, on the
West Bank, for "Block 44; lots 5, 6, 11, 12," read "Block 64; lots 5, 6, 11, 12."
On the East Bank, in Block 28, omit "allotments 3 and 4."
