A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Land Registry Act, 1860,"
it is enacted that the Governor shall, from
time to time, as he shall think fit, by proclamation in
the New Zealand Gazette, constitute throughout the
Colony of New Zealand, or in any part thereof,
Registrars' Districts for the purposes of that Act, and
such districts abolish, and the boundaries of any
district define and alter, and also declare by what
local name each such district shall be designated.
And whereas by a proclamation dated the nineteenth
day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-
six, a certain district was defined and constituted,
and was called the District of Dunedin. And
whereas it is expedient to abolish the said district
with a view to the constitution of a new district, to
include the whole of the Province of Otago :
Now therefore, I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
of the said Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers conferred on me by the said recited Act, do
hereby abolish the said District of Dunedin, and do
hereby constitute a new district for the purposes of
the said Act, and define the same to be all that
portion of the said Colony of New Zealand known as
the Province of Otago; and I further declare that
the district above defined shall be designated
THE DISTRICT OF OTAGO.
This proclamation shall take effect on and after
the first day of June, one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-seven.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir
George Grey, Knight Commander of the
Most Honorable Order of the Bath,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, at the
Government House, at Wellington, and
issued under the Seal of the said Colony,
this twenty-ninth day of April, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and sixty-seven.

IN virtue of the powers conferred on me by "The
Land Registry Act, 1860," I do hereby appoint
that registration under the said Act shall commence
in the District of Otago, as the said district is defined
in a proclamation bearing even date herewith, upon
the first day of June, one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-seven.

and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority in me vested in this behalf, I, Sir
George Grey, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby make the following regula-
tion, and do direct that the same shall be in force within
each Gaol of the Colony, from and after the date
of its publication in the New Zealand Gazette.

Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of
April, in the year of our Lord one

Each prisoner shall be provided with a Bible and
Prayer Book, approved by the religious denomination
to which the prisoner belongs.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly
of New Zealand, intituled "The Gold Fields
Act, 1866," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor in Council, under his hand and the
public Seal of the Colony, from time to time, to
delegate to the Superintendent of any Province, or
such other person as the Governor may deem fit, all
or any of the powers vested in the Governor, or the
Governor in Council, by the Act now in recital,
except the powers conferred by sections twenty-two,
forty, forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred
and seven, of the said Act, subject or not to any
limitations or restrictions as he may think fit, and in
like manner to alter or revoke any such powers :
Now therefore, I, Sir George Grey, the Governor
as aforesaid of the said Colony, with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in the
exercise of the power and authority for this purpose
in me vested, do hereby delegate unto
JOHN WILLIAMSON, Esquire,
as Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, all
the powers vested in me, under or by virtue of the
said "Gold Fields Act, 1866," except the powers
conferred by sections twenty-two, forty, forty-eight,
sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred and seven, to
have, hold, and exercise, within the Province of
Auckland, the said powers hereby given to the
said John Williamson, Esquire, so long as he shall
continue and remain Superintendent of the said
Province, and no longer: Provided always that
copies of all Rules and Regulations made under
the delegation aforesaid shall be forthwith trans-
mitted to the Colonial Secretary, in order that the
same may be laid before the General Assembly, in
accordance with the provisions of the one hundred
and tenth clause of "The Gold Fields Act, 1866."
