THE following letter from the Chief Secretary,
Melbourne, respecting an Industrial Exhibition,
proposed to be held in Melbourne, in the early part
of 1866, is published for general information.

Melbourne, 5th July, 1865.
SIR,—I have the honor to inform you, that in
compliance with an address from the Legislative
Assembly, a sum of £2000 has been placed upon this
year's estimates for the purpose of defraying the
preliminary expenses of an Exhibition of General
Industries and Art which it is proposed shall be held
in Melbourne in the early part of 1866.
This it is hoped will lead to a series of exhibitions
of a like nature being held in succession in the several
Australasian Colonies, and I would now invite the
support and co-operation of your Government to give
effect to so desirable an object.
Commissioners will be appointed under Royal
Commission to carry out the various details, and as
every means within their power will be taken to
render the undertaking attractive and successful, it
is trusted that all those intrusted in the development
of the industries and resources of the Australasian
Colonies will aid the efforts of the Commissioners by
a timely and cordial co-operation.
