District Boundary Proclamations




THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

shall be a Registrar's District, and it is provided
that the Governor may at any time revoke the whole
or any part of such proclamation and issue a new
proclamation dividing the Colony or any part of it
anew into districts, or increasing the number or alter-
ing the boundaries of districts as from time to time
he may think requisite;

And whereas by a Proclamation duly made and
issued, bearing date the sixth day of July, one
thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine, the Governor,
in pursuance of the said recited power and authority,
did, amongst others constitute a district for the
purposes of the said Act, called the "Aorere District,"
the boundaries whereof were therein set forth, which
said Proclamation came into operation and took effect
on the first day of October, one thousand eight
hundred and fifty nine;

And whereas it is expedient to revoke so much of
the said Proclamation as relates to the said District,
and to divide anew the territory formerly comprised
within such District:

Now therefore, I, Sir GEORGE GREY, the Governor
of the said Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the
power and authority vested in me by the said recited
Act, do hereby revoke the said proclamation so far
as relates to the "Aorere District," and do proclaim
and declare that the territory formerly comprised
within such district shall be and is hereby divided
for the purposes of the said Act into three Districts,
the names and boundaries whereof shall be as follows:

AORERE DISTRICT.
From Wakapoai Point to Point Pillar, thence
along the sea coast to Rangiaieta, thence along the
Watershed summit to Slate River Peak, Lead Hill,
and Mount Olympus; thence to summit of Snowdon
and Mount Domett, and thence to Wakapoai Point.

BULLER DISTRICT.
From Wakapoai Point to Mount Domett, thence
to the summit of Mount Snowdon; thence along the
watershed to Mount Arthur, thence in a straight
line to the junction of the Buller and Gowan, thence
along that line to the mouth of the Gowan, thence
up the Gowan to the southern extremity of Lake
Howick, thence in a straight line to Mount Frank-
lin, and from Mount Franklin in a straight line to
the junction of the Waituku with the Thackeray
River, thence in a straight line to Mount Faraday,
and from thence down the Tikopihi to the sea coast.

RIVER GREY DISTRICT.
Commencing at the mouth of the Tikopihi on the
sea coast, and by that stream to Mount Faraday;
thence in a straight line to the junction of the
Waituhu with the Thackeray River, thence in a
straight line to Mount Franklin, thence by the
watershed of the Spenser Mountains to Mount
Hochstetter, thence by a straight line to the saddle
between the sources of the Hurunui and Taramakau
Rivers, thence to the source of the Courtenay River,
thence by the western boundaries of the Christchurch
and Ashburton Districts respectively, and thence
from the source of the Rangitata in a straight line to
Abut Head.

And I do declare that this Proclamation shall come
into operation and take effect on the first day of
July, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five.

Given under my hand, at the Government
House, at Auckland, and issued under the
Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, this
twenty-second day of May, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and sixty-five.

ORDER IN COUNCIL,
Proclaiming certain Lands under "New Zealand
Settlements Act, 1863."

G. GREY, Governor.

At the Government House, at Auckland, the
sixteenth day of May, 1865.

Present :

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL,

WHEREAS it is enacted by the "New Zealand
Settlements Act, 1863," that whenever the
Governor in Council shall be satisfied that any
Native Tribe or Section of a Tribe or any considerable
number thereof has, since the first day of January,
1863, been engaged in rebellion against Her Majesty's
authority, it shall be lawful for the Governor in
Council to declare that the District within which any
land being the property or in the possession of such
tribe or section or considerable number thereof shall
be situate, shall be a District within the provisions of
the said Act:

And whereas the Governor in Council is satisfied
that the Native Tribes or considerable numbers thereof
owning or possessing the tract of territory hereafter
described have, since the period above mentioned,
been engaged in rebellion against Her Majesty's
authority:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of
the Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the said
power and authority, doth hereby declare that the
territory within the boundaries hereafter set forth
shall be a District within the provisions of the said
Act, that is to say:—

SCHEDULE.
Central Waikato.
Bounded on the North by a line commencing at
Pukorokoro on the Frith of the Thames and extending
in a straight line to the Esk Redoubt, thence by a
straight line to Tuahu or the Surrey Redobut, thence
by a line bearing South 43° West to the Southern
margin of the Mangatawhiri Swamp, thence by the
Southern boundary of the Mangatawhiri Swamp to
the Waikato River, thence by the Waikato River to
the sea; on the West by the sea coast from the
Waikato Heads to the Harbor of Whaingaroa, and
by the Harbor of Whaingaroa to the Waitetuna
River, thence by the Waitetuna River to its source,
thence by a straight line to the summit of the
Pirongia Range; on the South-East by a straight
line from the summit of the Pirongia Range to the
summit of the Kapamaunga Range, and thence by
the summit of the Kapamaunga and Hakarimata
Ranges to a line running East to the junction of
the Waipa and Horotiu Rivers, thence by that line
to the said junction and by a line extending East
from such junction to the North-Eastern angle
of the Military Settlements Land, constituted a
District under the "New Zealand Settlements Act,
1863," on the 29th December, 1864; and on the East
by a straight line extending from the North-Eastern
angle of the said Military Settlements Land to the
most Easterly source of the Matahuru River, thence
by a straight line extending to the summit of the
Rataroa Range, and by the summit of the Rataroa
Range to the Maungakawa summit, and thence in a
straight line to Pukorokoro aforesaid.
