THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
Notice of your Excellency the kindness and
assistance myself and crew received from the
undermentioned Natives of the District, viz.:
WHA RE KERERU, } of Hokianga ;
TAMA, his boy,
PARAE, a chief,
WATA RORE, } his sons, } of Mangawarha.
TE TAMA,
who have kindly undertaken the protection
of any Property belonging to the Wreck,
until they again hear from me.
I also wish to inform your Excellency
that when the Natives came in sight, I caused
to be destroyed all the ammunition and lead
that was about the vessel, for fear of its
getting into their hands.

Landing Surveyor, at the Port of Lyttelton.
This appointment dates from the 1st Sep-
tember, 1863.
