HIS Excellency the Governor has been
pleased to make the following appoint-
ments in the Colonial Defence Force, under
the "Colonial Defence Force Act, 1862,"
viz.:
Chief Inspector George Stoddart Whit-
more to be Commandant. Date of
Commission, 1st July, 1863.
James Townsend Edwards to be Com-
mandant. Date of Commission, 30th
July, 1863.
Richard Blackburn Leatham to be In-
spector. Date of Commission, 15th
July, 1863.
William Robertson to be Inspector.
Date of Commission, 14th August,
1863.
Samuel Deighton to be Inspector. Date
of Commission, 1st September, 1863.
Herbert Vernon Lillicrap to be Sub-
Inspector. Date of Commission 31st
July, 1863.
John Alexander Percy to be Sub-
Inspector. Date of Commission 2nd
August, 1863.
Paul Kingdon to be Sub-Inspector.
Date of Commission, 3rd August,
1863.
Maillard Noake to be Sub-Inspector.
Date of Commission, 11th September,
1863.

THE following Certificate and Declaration
are published in conformity with the
Provisions of the "Execution of Criminals
Act, 1858."
ALFRED DOMETT.
We do hereby testify and declare that we
have this day been present when the extreme
penalty of the Law was carried into execution
on the body of Richard Harper, convicted at
the Criminal Sessions of the Supreme Court,
held at Auckland on the 4th day of
September instant, and sentenced to Death;

and that the said Richard Harper was, in
pursuance of the said sentence, hanged by the
neck until his body was dead.

Dated this 22nd day of
September, in the year
1863, at the Stockade,
Mount Eden, the place
of execution.

I, THOMAS MOORE PHILSON, M.D., Medical
Officer in attendance at the execution of
Richard Harper, at the Stockade, Mount
Eden, do hereby certify and declare that I
have this day witnessed the execution of the
said Richard Harper, at the said Gaol; and
I do further certify and declare that the said
Richard Harper was, in pursuance of the
sentence of the Supreme Court, hanged by
the neck until his body was dead.

Given under my hand this
22nd day of September,
1863, at the Stockade,
Mount Eden, the place
of execution.
