A PROCLAMATION.
"Execution of Criminals Act, 1858," to come
into operation in the Province of Welling-
ton.
By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY,
Knight, Commander of the Most
Honorable Order of the Bath,
Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand, and its
Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same, &c., &c., &c.
WHEREAS by the "Execution of
Criminals Act, 1858," it is enacted
that the said Act shall come into operation in
such part of the Colony of New Zealand as
the Governor shall by Proclamation from time
to time appoint to be Districts for that pur-
pose:
Now I, George Grey, Governor of the said
Colony, in pursuance and exercise of the said
power, do hereby appoint and proclaim the
Province of Wellington to be a District within
which the said Act shall, from the date hereof,
come into operation.
Given under my hand, at the Govern-
ment House at Auckland, and
issued under the Seal of
the Colony of New Zealand, this
sixth day of January, in the

WARRANT
Delegating to J. A. R. Menzies certain
powers under Waste Lands Act, 1858.
By His Excellency Sir GEORGE
GREY, Knight, Commander of the
Most Honorable Order of the Bath,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief
in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its De-
pendencies, and Vice-Admiral of
the same, &c., &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General
Assembly of New Zealand intituled
"The Waste Lands Act, 1858," it is enacted
that, subject to the several Acts, Ordinances,
Regulations and Bills specified in the Schedule
to the said Act, and in cases where no provi-
sion shall have been made in such behalf, it
shall be lawful for the Governor in Council in
the name and on behalf of Her Majesty to
constitute such Offices and Boards, and appoint
such Officers as may be necessary for the
management and administration of the Waste
Lands of the Crown, and for the survey thereof,
within the several Provinces of the Colony,
and from time to time to make such changes
and alterations, and remove such Officers as he
may think fit: And it is further provided
by the said Act that it shall be lawful for the
Governor under his hand and the Public Seal
of the Colony, from time to time to delegate
to the Superintendent of any Province, or to
such other person as the Governor may think
fit (amongst other powers and authorities), the
before recited power and authority, subject or
not to any limitations or restrictions as he may
think fit; and in like manner to revoke such
powers:
Now therefore I, Sir George Grey, the
Governor as aforesaid, of the said Colony,
do hereby delegate to
JAMES ALEXANDER ROBERTSON MENZIES,
Esquire,
the Superintendent of the Province of South-
land in the said Colony (but so long only as he
shall continue to hold the said office of Super-
intendent) all the powers and authorities vested
in me by the said Act so far as the same are
above recited to have, hold, and exercise such
powers and authority, subject to the annexed
Regulations, during the said period.

The powers delegated by the foregoing
Warrant shall be exercised from time to time
by written Instruments under the hand of the
Superintendent, to be approved of by a Reso-
lution of the Provincial Council of the said
Province to be duly made in that behalf. Such
Resolution to be certified to the Governor by
the Speaker of the Council within one month
from its date. -
It shall be competent to the Governor at
his pleasure to disallow any such exercise of the
powers above delegated at any time within two
months after the receipt by the Governor of
such Resolution. -
No exercise of such powers shall take
effect till the Governor shall have expressly
allowed the same, except that the same may be
made to take effect provisionally, and until the
Governor shall have declared his pleasure
thereupon.
