Government House,
Auckland, April 14th, 1862.
SIR,-I beg that you will be good enough
to convey to the Auckland Volunteers my
thanks for their having taken the Garrison
duty of Auckland during the months of March
and April. I only express my own thanks to
them for having so cheerfully given up their
time to perform these duties; but I am sure
that every inhabitant of the Province, as well
as myself, must feel greatly indebted to them
for having thus aided the military in the
execution of a great public work, which must
be productive of such vast future advantages.
- I regret much that it will not be in my
power to present the Prizes, and to review the
Volunteers on the 15th of May, as I should
have been very glad in this manner to have
testified my sense of the services which they
have rendered to the Government, and to New
Zealand.
I have, &c.,
G. GREY.
Colonel Balneavis,
Deputy Adjutant-General,
Militia and Volunteers.

day from further duty, I am directed by the
Lieut.-General Commanding to beg that you
will thank the officers and men of the Corps
in his name, for the important assistance they
have rendered at his request to the Regular
Troops by furnishing the Garrison Guards in
Auckland since the 24th of February and that
you will express to them his satisfaction with
the manner in which they have performed that
duty.
I have, &c.,
