Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 17th March, 1862.
HIS Excellency the Governor announces, with extreme sorrow, the
death of His Royal Highness the PRINCE CONSORT which took place
at Windsor Castle on the 14th December last.
The Public Offices will be closed to-morrow.
All Civil Officers of the Government are to go into mourning
on Sunday the 23rd instant, and all other the Queen's subjects are
invited to put themselves in mourning on this melancholy occasion, as a
further mark of respect to the memory of the illustrious deceased, and
in token of their loyal sympathy with Her Most Gracious Majesty in
Her deep affliction.
