A PROCLAMATION.

Assumption of the office of Governor by Sir George Grey, K.C.B.

By His Excellency SIR GEORGE GREY, Knight, Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the
Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing date the Twelfth day of August, in the year of our Lord
One thousand eight hundred and sixty-one, to constitute and appoint me, Sir George Grey, Knight, Commander
of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, to be Governor and Commander in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and of all Forts and Garrisons which were or should be estab-
lished in the said Colony: And Her Majesty did require and command all Officers and Ministers, Civil and
Military, and all other the Inhabitants of the said Colony, to be obedient to aiding and assisting me in the
execution of Her Majesty's Commission:

Now, therefore, I, SIR GEORGE GREY, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the pre-
scribed Oaths and assumed the Administration of the Government accordingly, and I hereby call upon the Inha-
bitants of the Colony to be aiding and assisting me therein.

Given under my hand, at the Government House at Auckland, and issued under the Seal
of the Colony of New Zealand, this fourth day of December, in the year of our
Lord, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-one.

  • The Honorable READER GILSON WOOD, Esquire, Colonial Treasurer and Commissioner of Customs;
  • The Honorable CROSBIE WARD, Esquire, Postmaster-General and Secretary for Crown Lands;
  • The Honorable THOMAS HENDERSON, Esquire, M.G.A.;
  • The Honorable DANIEL POLLEN, Esquire, M.L.C.;
    to be Members of the Executive Council of New Zealand.
