AUCKLAND MILITIA REGULATIONS.


BY virtue, and in exercise of the authority
in me vested by the "Militia Act, 1858,"
and "Militia Act Amendment Act, 1860," I
Thomas Gore Browne, Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby make and issue
the following Orders for the Regulation of the
Auckland Regiment of Militia.

  1. The Auckland Militia District shall be
    divided into three divisions, the boundaries
    whereof respectively shall be as follows:-

The 1st Division, a line commencing at the
point where the Karangahape road crosses the
Scoria creek at a stone bridge, thence eastward
along the centre of that road to its junction
with the Cabbage-tree swamp road; thence
southward and eastward along the centre of the
Cabbage-tree swamp road to its junction with
the Mount Eden road; thence southward along
the centre of the Mount Eden road to the
junction of the scoria quarry road: thence
eastward along the centre of the scoria
quarry road to its junction with the
Mount Eden reserve road; thence east-
ward, southward and eastward again along
the centre of the Mount Eden reserve
road to its junction with the Epsom road at the
point of junction of the Epsom road with the
Great South road; thence south eastward along
the centre of the Great South road to the
"Harp of Erin" Hotel; thence in a direct line
northward to that branch of the Oraki creek
which bounds the sheep quarantine ground;
thence down the said creek to the sea; thence
westward along the high-water mark of the
Waitemata harbour to the scoria creek; thence
southward along the scoria creek to the point
first above described.

The 2nd Division, a line commencing at the
point where the Karangahape road crosses the
Scoria creek at a stone bridge, thence eastward
along the southern boundary of the 1st Division,
as above described, to the "Harp of Erin,"
hotel; thence south-eastward along the centre
of the Great South road to Saint Anne's
bridge; thence westward along the high water
mark of the north side of the Manukau har-
bour to the point where it would be cut by the
circumference of a circle having a radius of
15 miles from the point where the Great
South road intersects the western boundary
line of "Clendon's Grant," thence northward
along the circumference of such circle until it
cuts the high water mark of the Waitemata
harbour, thence along the high water mark of
the Waitemata harbour to the Scoria creek;
thence up the Scoria creek to the point first
above described.

The 3rd Division, a line commencing at the
"Harp of Erin" Hotel on the Great South
road, thence northward along the east boundary
of the 1st Division, as before described, to the
sea; thence generally eastward along the high-
water mark of the Waitemata harbor to the
point where it would be cut by the circum-
ference of a circle having a radius of fifteen
miles from the point where the Great South
road intersects the western boundary of "Clen-
don's Grant;" thence southward and westward
along the circumference of such circle until it
cuts the high-water mark of the Manukau
harbor; thence generally northward and east-
ward along the high-water mark of the Manu-
kau harbour to St. Anne's bridge on the Great
South road; thence north-westward along the
centre of the Great South road, being part of
the boundary of the 2nd Division, to the "Harp
of Erin" Hotel, the point first above described.

  1. The Militiamen resident in each such
    Division shall constitute a Battalion.

  2. Each Battalion shall be divided into three
    classes. The first class shall consist of all
    unmarried men, and all widowers without
    children, between the ages of sixteen years
    and forty years, both inclusive, who shall be
    called first class service men. The second
    class shall consist of all married men, and
    widowers with children, between the same ages
    who shall be called second class service men;
    and the third class shall consist of all men
    between the ages of forty years and fifty-five
    years who shall be called the reserve men.

  3. The men of the several classes shall be
    formed by the senior officer of each Battalion, into
    one or more company or companies, he having
    regard in such formation to secure as far as
    possible contiguity of residence of the men in
    each company.

CANTERBURY MILITIA REGULA-
TIONS.

BY virtue and in exercise of the authority
in me vested by the Militia Act, 1858,"
and "Militia Act Amendment Act, 1860, I,
Thomas Gore Browne, Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby make and issue
the following Orders for the Regulation of the
Canterbury Regiment of Militia.

  1. The Canterbury Militia District shall be
    divided into three divisions, the boundaries
    whereof respectively shall be as follows:-

The first or Christchurch division shall
comprise the country bounded on the
Northward by the Southern bank of the
Waimakiriri (or Courtenay), the River Pu-
rarikanui, and the Northern boundary of
Section 1472 and thence by the head of the
Bottle Lake to the sea; by the Sea on the
Eastward; the ridge of the Port Hills on the
Southward and Southeastward to Lake Elles-
mere; and Westward by the boundary of the
District.

The second or Lyttelton division shall comprise
the country bounded on the Northward and
Westward, by the Christchurch sub-division;
by the sea on the Eastward, and on the South-
ward and Southeastward by the boundary of
the district.

The third or Kaiapoi division shall com-
prise the country bounded on the Northward
and Westward by the boundary of the dis-
trict.

  1. The Militiamen resident in each such
    Division shall constitute a Battalion.
