I being considered desirable to bring into
operation the "Petty Sessions Act, 1858,"
in those Districts in which there are no Resident
Magistrates, the Government would feel obliged
to Justices of the Peace residing in such
Districts, if they would forward to this office
any information or suggestions as to con-
stituting the Districts in which they reside
Petty Sessional Districts, under the authority
of the above-mentioned Act.

under "The Joint Stock Companies Act,

FIVE POUNDS REWARD.

Native Secretary's Office,
Auckland, January 15, 1861.

FIVE POUNDS REWARD will be given
to any person finding and bringing to the
Native Secretary's Office the gun used and the
trousers worn by the Native Eriatara at the
time of his death, which took place on or
about the 10th of October last, in the neigh-
borhood of Patumahoe.

Houses of the Legislature published
for general information.

PRIVATE GRIEVANCES.

At the commencement of every Session, a
Standing Committee of nine Members shall be
appointed, to which shall be referred all Peti-
tions relating to Private Grievances; and no
such Petition shall be received by the House
after 30 days from the meeting thereof, unless
such grievance shall have arisen during the
Session, or within 30 days previous to its
commencement.

PETITIONS.

  1. It shall be incumbent on every Member
    presenting a petition, to acquaint himself with
    the contents thereof, and to ascertain that it
    does not contain language disrespectful to the
    House.

  2. Every member presenting a petition to
    the House, shall affix his name at the beginning
    thereof.

  3. Every petition shall be in writing.

  4. Every petition shall contain, at the end
    thereof, the prayer of the petitioners.

  5. Every petition shall be signed by at least
    one person on every skin or sheet on which the
    petition is written.

  6. Every petition shall be written in the
    English or in the Maori language; and should
