described as Co-partners, the Registrar cannot,
under "the Merchant Shipping Act, 1854," be
required to enter on the Register the names
of Transferees with the addition of "Co-part-
ners," or to receive for the purpose of registra-
tion a Bill of Sale in which the Transfer is
made to persons as "Co-partners" even though
the parties consent that the word "Joint-
owners," shall be inserted on the register in
lieu of "Co-partners."
Certificates of Registry, at present granted
to British Ships, although in all other respects
agreeing with the Form D, given in the
schedule to "the Merchant Shipping Act,
1854," do not contain the Notice which is
placed at the foot of that Form, to the effect
that the Certificate of Registry is not to be
considered as a Document of Title. As it is
extremely important that Shipowners and others
should have their attention called to it, the
notice should be printed in the Form on
the occasion of any future supply. In the
meantime the Registrar will be so good as
to take care that the words of the Notice,
viz.: "Notice. A certificate of "Registry,
"granted under the 'Merchant Shipping Act,
"1854,' is not a document of Title. It does
not necessarily contain notice of all changes
"of ownership, and in no case does it contain
"an official record of any mortgages affecting the
"ship,"--be added in writing at the foot of any
certificate of Registry, which may have been
issued under the present Act, when the same
is presented to him for any purpose, and
that the Notice be in future inserted on the
Certificates of Registry before the same are
issued.

Circular No. 100.
BOARD OF TRADE,
October 1858.
THE Commissioners of Customs, with the
approval of the Board of Trade, having
directed that, with a view to the more accurate
admeasurement of the Tonnage of Vessels
under Rule 2, prescribed by section 22 of
the "The Merchant Shipping Act, 1854," the
Decimal Factor '0017 for ships built of Wood,
and '0018 for those built of Iron, be substituted
for Factors '0018 and '0021 now in use as
directed by the said Section, the proper officers
will be careful to govern themselves accordingly
in all future computations. Vessels already
measured by Rule 2 must be remeasured
agreeably to the above modification of the Rule,
on the application of their Owners or Agents,
and delivery of the original certificates for can-
cellation.
