PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Colonel THOMAS
GORE BROWNE, Companion of
the Most Honorable Order of
the Bath, Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over
Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand, and its Dependencies,
&c., &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General
Assembly, intituled the “Gold Fields
Act, 1858,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor from time to time, by Pro-
clamation, to constitute and appoint any por-
tion of the Colony to be a “Gold Field” under
the provisions of the said Act:
Now, therefore, I, Thomas Gore Browne,
the Governor as aforesaid of the said Colony, do
hereby, in pursuance of the said power and
authority, constitute and appoint all that terri-
tory hereinafter described, to be a Gold Field
under the provisions of the said Act; that is
to say, All that territory commencing at the
mouth of the Takaka River, thence up that
river to its source at Mount Arthur, thence in
a straight line to the source of the Karamea
River, thence along the sea Coast to the
North Head of the Whakapuaia River, thence
along the Wakamarama Range to Mount
Burnett, thence by a line to the mouth of the
Rua Taniwha River, thence by the Sea Coast
to the commencing point at the mouth of the
Takaka River.
And I declare that this Proclamation shall
come into operation and take effect on the
first day of November, one thousand eight
hundred and fifty-nine.
Given under my hand, and issued
under the Public Seal of the
Colony of New Zealand, at
Government House, at Auck-
land, this fourth day of October,
in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and
fifty-nine.
