GORE BROWNE, Companion of
the Most Honourable Order of
the Bath, Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act passed by
the General Assembly of New
Zealand intituled "The Bank Paper Cur-
rency Act, 1856," it is amongst other
things enacted, that it shall be lawful for the
Governor of New Zealand, with the advice of
his Executive Council, by Proclamation in the
New Zealand Government Gazette, from time
to time to proclaim and declare that any Bank-
ing Company or Co-partnership incorporated
by her Majesty's letters patent, which, by virtue
of such letters patent, is, or shall be empowered
to carry on the business of a Banker in New
Zealand, and to issue and circulate within the
said Colony the promissory notes of the Com-
pany, payable to bearer on demand, may law-
fully issue and circulate such notes within the
said Colony, any Law or Ordinance to the
contrary thereof notwithstanding, but subject
to the provisions and restrictions in such letters
patent contained: And whereas "The Oriental
Bank Corporation," incorporated by her Ma-
jesty's letters patent, bearing date the 30th
day of August, in the 15th year of her Ma-
jesty's reign, is empowered by virtue of the said
letters patent, to carry on the business of a Ban-
ker in the said Colony of New Zealand, and
has applied for authority to issue and circulate
the promissory notes of the said Company,
payable to bearer on demand.
Now, therefore, I, the Governor of New
Zealand, in pursuance of the authority vested in
me in that behalf by the said recited Act, do
hereby, with the advice of my Executive Coun-
cil, proclaim and declare, that "The Oriental
Bank Corporation" may lawfully issue and cir-
culate within the said Colony the promissory
notes of the said Corporation, payable to bearer

on demand, subject to the provisions and re-
strictions in the said letters patent contained.

Bath, Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand &c., &c.
WHEREAS by an Act passed in the Ses-
sion of Parliament held in the fifteenth
and sixteenth years of Her Majesty's reign,
intituled "An Act to grant a Representative
Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand,"
it is amongst other things declared, that no Bill
which shall be reserved for the signification of
Her Majesty's pleasure thereon shall have any
force or authority within the Colony of New
Zealand until the Governor of the said Colony
shall signify by message to
the Legislative Council and House of Repre-
sentatives of the said Colony, or by Procla-
mation that such Bill has been laid before
Her Majesty in Council, and that Her Majesty
has been pleased to assent to the same: And
whereas on the 15th of August 1856, a certain
Bill passed by the Legislative Council and
House of Representatives of the said Colony
entitled "An Act to alter the Civil List
granted to Her Majesty by the Constitution
Act so far as relates to the salary of the Go-
vernor" was presented to the Governor for Her
Majesty's assent, and on the 16th of August
1856, a certain other Bill passed by the Legis-
lative Council and House of Representatives of
the said Colony, entitled "An Act to extend
the Powers in certain cases of Superintendents
and Provincial Councils" was presented to the
Governor for Her Majesty's assent, and the
said Bills were reserved by the said Governor
for the signification of Her Majesty's pleasure
thereon.
Now, therefore, I, the Governor of New
Zealand, in pursuance of the provisions of the
said in part recited Act Do by this Proclama-
tion signify and proclaim to all whom it may
concern, that the said Bills have been laid before
Her Majesty in Council, and that Her Majesty
by and with the advice of Her Privy Council,
has been pleased to assent to the same.
