PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency Colonel THOMAS
GORE BROWNE, Companion of
the most Honorable Order of
the Bath, Governor of the Colony
New Zealand &c., &c.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by
the Lieutenant Governor of New Zea-
land, with the advice and consent of the Legisla-
tive Council thereof, intituled "An Ordinance
for establishing Courts of Sessions of the
Peace," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor, by Proclamation, from time to
time, to constitute and define certain Dis-
tricts within which there shall be holden
Courts of Sessions of the Peace, at such times
and places as the Governor shall by Procla-
mation from time to time appoint.

And whereas Sessions of the Peace for the
District of the Province of Canterbury were
by Proclamation dated the thirty-first day of
March, 1857, appointed to be held at the
Town of Christchurch in the said Province, on
the days therein in that behalf mentioned, and
it is expedient that the said Sessions should be
held at the Town of Lyttelton, in the said Pro-
vince, instead of at the Town of Christchurch
aforesaid.

Now therefore I, the Governor, in pursu-
ance of the powers vested in me in that behalf,
do hereby appoint that Sessions of the Peace
shall be held at the Town of Lyttelton, in the
said Province, instead of at the Town of Christ-
church, on the first days of March, June, Sep-
tember and December, in every year, or when
any of the said days shall fall on a Sunday,
or Good Friday, then on the following day.

LEVEE at Government House, on TUES-
DAY, the 26th instant, at two o'clock, in honor
of Her Majesty's Birthday.

IT is hereby notified that TUESDAY, the
26th instant, will be observed as a Holi-
day at the Public Offices, in honor of Her
