HIS Excellency the Governor is pleased to
notify, for general information, that he
has received a despatch from the Right Honor-
able Henry Labouchere, one of Her Majesty's
Principal Secretaries of State, stating that Her
Majesty had approved of the appointment of
the undermentioned gentleman to a seat in the
Legislative Council of the General Assembly,
and transmitting a Warrant under the Royal
Sign Manual and Signet, authorising his being
summoned to that Council accordingly.

ter addressed to Colonel Wynyard, C. B., by
direction of the Field Marshal, Commanding
in Chief, should be published for general in-
formation.

SIR,β€”In obedience to the directions of the
Field Marshal, Commanding in Chief, I do
myself the honor to acquaint you that his
Lordship has recently received a letter from
the Secretary of State for War, forwarding
one from the Secretary of State for the Colo-
nies, regarding your retirement from the office
of Governor of New Zealand, on the assump-
tion thereof by Colonel Gore Browne, and
calling attention to the satisfactory manner in
which you have performed the duties that have
devolved upon you since you have been in the
Island, and in making this communication to
you, I am directed to state that while it affords
the Field Marshal great satisfaction to have
the means of recording so strong a testimonial
to your services, both Civil and Military, he
desires to assure you, that it is not more than
he wou'd have expected from the character
which you have always borne in the service.
