WITH reference to the notice and accom-
panying Proclamation published in the
Government Gazette of the 18th July, instant,
the Governor has been pleased
to direct the re-publication of that no-
tice with the following Proclamation issued
at Wellington by His Excellency Sir George
Grey, on the 18th December, 1852, which
Proclamation has been, and is now, in force
throughout the Colony.

HIS Excellency the Officer administering
the Government has been pleased to
direct the republication of the following Pro-
clamation, dated 18th December 1852, altering
the rates of Postage payable in New Zealand
for the transmission, receipt, or delivery of
Letters.
His Excellency further directs it to be noti-
fied that the Postage Stamps referred to in the
paragraph headed "Letters and Packets" of
that Proclamation have been received, and are
issuable by Post Masters to the Public at the
respective fixed values of such Stamps, viz.:--
one penny, two pence, and one shilling per
stamp.
Post Masters are directed, on the receipt of
stamped Letters or Packets in each Post
Office to cancel the Stamps on such Letters or
Packets previously to their despatch,
Persons are particularly requested to ascer-
tain the exact weight of their Letters and Packets
before posting them, in order to enable them
(the senders) to affix the correct Stamps upon
each Letter or Packet.
The Stamps to be affixed on the outside of
all Letters or Packets above the address written
on them.

By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY,
a Knight Commander of the
Most Honorable Order of the
Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over the Islands of
New Zealand, and Governor of the
Provinces of New Ulster and New
Munster, and Vice-Admiral of the
same, &c., &c., &c.
WHEREAS, by an Ordinance passed by
the Governor-in-Chief of the Islands
of New Zealand, by and with the advice and
consent of the Legislative Council thereof, in-
tituled, "An Ordinance for regulating the
Conveyance and Postage of Letters," it is
enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor
in Chief, from time to time, by Proclamation
to be published in the Government Gazette,
to make and establish all such Rules and Re-
gulations as to him may seem expedient, for
promoting the safe and expeditious conveyance
and delivery of all Mails, Letters, News-
papers, and other papers,
