AUCKLAND ISLANDS.

It is hereby notified that a Register-Book,
containing entries of the Marriages, Births,
and Deaths which took place in the Auck-
LAND ISLANDS during their occupation by the
Southern Whale Fishery Company, has been
deposited at the office of the Registrar-
General, in the Post Office, Building, Auck-
land, New Zealand, where the Register is
now accessible to the public under the usual
regulations.

The following Abstract of the contents of
the Book has been compiled, and is published
for the information of persons at a distance
who may be interested in the facts.

MARRIAGES.

  1. George Cook, Bachelor, Mariner, and
    Matilda Hannah Fawkes, Spinster, married
    on board the Barque Brisk, at Port Ross, on
    the 22nd December, 1849, by Lieut. Gover-
    nor Enderby. Witnesses-Thos. Jas. Tap-
    rell, Hephzibah Elizabeth Hallett, Mary
    Rumsey Rodd, J. O. Smith, W. H. Hender-
    son, J. S. Rodd.

  2. Thomas Dewson, Bachelor, Policeman,
    and Eliza Amelia Hyde, Spinster, married on
    board the Barque Augusta, at Port Ross, on
    the 28th February, 1850, by Lieut. Governor
    Enderby. Witnesses-William A. Mack-
    worth, Robert H. Barnett, Eliza. Barnett,
    William Smith, Elizabeth Smith.

  3. William John Munce, Widower, Gen-
    tleman, and Elizabeth Eleanor McKenny,
    Spinster, married at Port Ross, on the 17th
    December, 1850, by Lieut. Governor Ender-
    by. Witnesses-Mary R. Rodd, A. Brooks,
    William A. Mackworth, C. Mc A. King.

  4. Robert Reuben Bishop, Bacbelor, Sea-
    man, and Hannah Tawerangi, Spinster (de-
    scribed as daughter of Koko, a New Zealand
    Chief), married at Port Ross, on the 3rd No-
    vember, 1851, by Lieut. Governor Enderby.
    Witnesses-William A.Mackworth, Mateoro,
    E. Pueta.

  5. James Lomax, Bachelor, Sawyer, and
    Esther Davies, Spinster, married at Port Ross
    on the 28th November, 1851, by Lieut. Go-
    vernor Enderby. Witnesses-James Bell,
    Caroline Bell, Thomas Flashbon, William J.
    Munee.

BIRTHS.

[The Register of Births is defective in
some particulars, especially the Christian
names of the children are in most cases want-
ing. The names included in brackets are
those which appear—from entries in another
part of the book—to have been given at bap-
tisms solemnized, on the 17th February, 1850;
by the Rev. John Milner, Chaplain of H.M.S.
Havannah, and on the 31st March, 1852, by
the Rev. G. E. Carwithen, Chaplain of H.M.S
Calliope, respectively.]

DEATHS AT PORT ROSS.

  1. Isabel Younger, aged 3 months, died
    Nov. 19th, 1850, of Inflammation.

  2. Thomas Cook, Mariner, aged 22,
    drowned on September 7th, 1851.

  3. Janet Stove, aged 14 weeks, died on
    Oct. 10th, 1851, of Convulsions.

  4. John Edward Downes, Mariner, died
    on Feb. 21st, 1852. of Dysentery.
