HIS Excellency the Officer administering
the Government directs it to be notified
for general information, that Writs for the elec-
tion of Members of the House of Representa-
tives for the undermentioned districts, in the
Province of Otago, having been issued in ac-
cordance with the provisions of an Act to grant
a Representative Constitution to the Colony
of New Zealand, the Returning Officer for
the said districts, has returned the said Writs,
with certificates to the effect that the under-
mentioned gentlemen have been duly elected
to serve as Members of the said House of
Representatives for the said districts.

For the Town of Dunedin.
JAMES MACANDREW, Esq., of Dunedin, Mer-

For the Dunedin Country District.
WILLIAM HENRY CUTTEN, Esq., of Dunedin,
Auctioneer.
JOHN CARGILL, Esq., of Tokomairiro, Gentle-

direct that the following Despatch from
Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Co-
lonies should be published for general infor-
mation.

SIRβ€”I have to acknowledge the receipt of
your Despatch No. 27, of the 22nd of
February last, forwarding an amended Pro-
clamation which you had issued, in pursuance
of my predecessor's Despatch No. 26, of the
28th of June, 1852, for regulating the

conveyance and Postage of letters, &c. in New
Zealand, and having laid this Proclamation
before the Queen, I have to acquaint you that
Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to
approve the same.

Having referred a Copy of your Despatch to
the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, I
transmit for your information a copy of a
letter which has been received in reply from
that Board, from which you will perceive that
measures have been taken for extending to New
Zealand the benefit of the General Regu-
lations of the Colonial Book Post.

SIR,β€”With reference to your letter of 16th
July last, I am directed by the Lords Commis-
sioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint
you for the information of the Duke of New-
castle that their Lordships have caused a war-
rant to be issued bearing the signature of two
members of this Board for extending the
General Regulations of the Colonial Book
Post to New Zealand, the same to take effect
as far as regards Books Posted in the United
Kingdom on the 1st November next.
