DOWER ACT, 1854.

IN THE EIGHTEENTH YEAR OF THE REIGN OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN
VICTORIA.

  1. Act 3 and 4, William IV., to extend to 2. Short title.

AN ACT to amend the Law relating to Dower.
(Assented to 14th September, 1854.)

WHEREAS the rights of women, married before the second. Preamble.
day of January 1834 to Dower out of the Lands and
Tenements of which their Husbands may at any time have been
seized during their coverture occasions considerable expence in-
convenience and delay in the alienation of Real Estate.

BE IT THERFORE ENACTED by the General Assembly of New
Zealand :

  1. That the provisions of a certain Act made and passed in Act 3 & 4, Wm. IV.,
    the 3rd and 4th years of the Reign of His late Majesty King c. 105, to extend to
    William the fourth intituled "An Act for the amendment of the Dower of Women
    Law relating to Dower" shall extend to the Dower of any Widows married before 2nd
    who shall have married previously to the second day of January January, 1834.
    one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four.

  2. This Act shall be termed the "Dower Act, 1854," and short title.
    may be cited and referred to by that title.
