By His Excellency's Command,

VOL. VII. AUCKLAND, THURSDAY, MAY 20, 1847. No. 8.

Government House,
Auckland, 19th May, 1847.

IN consequence of the Lieutenant-Gover-
nor's departure for the South, the Ball
intended to be held on the Queen's Birth-Day,
at Government House, is postponed until
Friday, the 18th June.

GODFREY J. THOMAS,
Private Secretary.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 19th May, 1847.

THE LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR directs it to
be notified, that the Government have
recently obtained the most convincing proofs
that some of the Inhabitants of the Town of
Auckland, are still in the constant habit of
selling to the Natives, Arms, Gunpowder,
and other Warlike Stores, thereby affording
the uncivilized tribes of this country, the
means of carrying on wars amongst them-
selves, as also of destroying Her Majesty's
subjects in this territory, and of overwhelming
the isolated and unprotected British Settle-
ments which exist in various portions of these
Islands.

The Lieutenant-Governor, now, earnestly
solicits and entreats the whole of the respect-
able inhabitants of Auckland and its vicinity,
to use every exertion in their power to dis-
countenance, and put an end to, such unprin-
cipled and disgraceful proceedings, which
must entail the most frightful and distressing
calamities upon their fellow-countrymen, and

will certainly be viewed with horror and in-
dignation by the whole civilized world.

By His Excellency's command,
ANDREW SINCLAIR,
Colonial Secretary.
