NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 8th August, 1845.

IS Excellency the Governor has given
directions for publishing the following
letter for general information.

By Command,

ANDREW SINCLAIR,
Colonial Secretary.

H. M. Colonial Brig "Victoria,"
August 5th, 1845.

SIR, -I have the honor to report, for the
information of His Excellency the Governor, the
existence of a Rock on the North side of the
Island of Waiheke. It lies three quarters of a
mile off the Western point of a small sandy bay
-Bird Island bearing N.N.E. about six miles-
five fathoms water close to the rock, deepening
quickly off to the northward. The Brig while
in stays (working along the shore on the 2nd
July last), struck her stem against it; but in
consequence of her way being checked, no
injury was done.

I have also to report that on, entering the
Keri Keri, on the 2nd instant, the vessel grazed
a Rock, hitherto imperfectly known, which is
part of a ledge of foul ground on which the
Slains Castle touched without sustaining any
injury, on the 16th June. It lies in a line with
the end of the low sandy point South of Kent's
Passage, in one with Kororareke point, and a
small sandy bay in Tareha's Bay, (the second
from the Northern point N. N.E.)

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient Servant,

ROBERT RICHARDS,
Commander of H. M. Col. Brig Victoria.*

The Honorable the
Colonial Secretary.
