By His Excellency ROBERT FITZROY,
Esquire, Captain in Her Majesty's Royal
Navy, Governor and Commander in-Chief
in and over the Colony of New Zealand,
and Vice Admiral of the same, &c. &c.

WHEREAS doubts have been expressed as
to the precise period at which certain
Ordinances have, or shall come into operation
within this Colonyβ€”it is hereby made more
clearly known that the undermentioned Ordi-
nances have or will come into operation at the
periods set against their respective titles in the
following Schedule:β€”

Court of Requests........ October 1st, 1844.
Native Trusts... To await Royal Assent.
Auctioneers Amendment ....June 20th, 1844.
Conveyancing Amendment.... July 4th, 1844.
Municipal Corporations... To await Royal Assent.
Distillation Repeal...... do do
Cattle Trespass Amendment. October 1st, 1844.
Summary Proceedings do...July 16th, 1844.
Unsworn Testimony...........do 16th, 1844.
Harbour Regulations Amendment do. do., 1844.
Dog Nuisance................July 17th, 1844.

GOVERNMENT NOTICE.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 20th July, 1844.

TENDERS for Surveying by Contract, will
be received at this Office until noon of
Monday, the 5th of August next.

The Tenders must state the price per linear
mile for different kinds of country, such as fern
and short manuka, manuka scrub, wood,
(similar in character to that in the vicinity of
Auckland,) and forest.

In addition to the laying out, cutting and
measuring the boundaries of Allotments, the
Contractor will be required to dig proper boun-
dary marks at the corners, and drive branded
pegs, indicating the numbers of the Allotments.
The same will be required at the angles of roads.

The boundary marks for suburban and country
Lots, are to consist of a peg at least three inches
square, with the numbers of the Lots branded
upon them, and a mound of earth four feet in
diameter at the base, and two feet high. From
the base of the mound, trenches are to be dug
in the direction of the boundaries of
Allotments and angles of roads, four feet long,
eighteen inches broad, and eighteen inches deep.
Corners of town Allotments will be indicated by
a branded peg.

The Contracting Surveyor will be required to
state upon the map, the general character of the
land in each Allotment, the nature of the soil, its
average depth, and the description of sub-soil;
and note in his Field-Book, and upon the plan,
where the measured lines cross streams, and
where they enter and leave different kinds of
land, such as fern, and low manuka, manuka
scrub, woods and forests; these points are after-
wards to be connected by sketching in the
boundaries of the same, and are to be represented
by a dotted line, to distinguish such work from
what has actually been surveyed.

The Tender is required to state the price per
