CLAIMS TO LAND WITHDRAWN.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 14th May, 1843.

HIS Excellency the Officer administering
the Government directs it to be notified
that the Commissioners for investigating Claims
to Grants of Land in this Colony, have reported
that the undermentioned claims have been
withdrawn by the claimants.

Case No. 40, (a)—John Baker, of Hokianga,
claimant.
Case No. 42 (a)—Thomas Bateman, of the Bay
of Islands, claimant.
Case No. 42 (b)—Thomas Bateman, of the Bay
of Islands, claimant.
Case No. 42 (f)—Thomas Bateman, of the Bay
of Islands, claimant.
Case No. 48—Eleanor Baker, of Kaipara,
claimant.

WILLIAM CONNELL

Parties are reminded that, before such Claims
can be investigated, they must pay to the Com-
missioner a Fee of Five Pounds, as prescribed
by the Ordinance.

Case No. 452.—WILLIAM JOHNSTON, of
Kawhia, claimant.

600, Six hundred acres, more or less, situate
on the southern side of the Harbour of Kawhia;
known by the names of Puketutu, Hamakuku,
Kaipaku, Witianga, Puketoa, Kopoun-
gareporepa, Takapau, Pairoa, Waokomuka, Par-
mamaku, Te Tetatea, Ngataumutu, and other
names; bounded on the west by a creek or
branch of the Waiharakeke river, called Oteki,
on the south by a ridge called Kahakaharoa, on
the east by a line running from Kahakaharoa
to Taumamuka, to Manaku, to Maingareporepo,
to Pukerewarewa, and to Te Bata, and on the
north by a line running from the Rata along a
ridge to Pairoa, to Wakotuku, and to the creek
Oteke.

Alleged to have been purchased by claimant
from the native chiefs, Haupokia, Ahuriri,
Te Kahapu, Kaipaka, Tangi, Wakaugaro,
Ngarinui, Te Amangi, Maukorihi, Nga-
motu, and others.

Consideration given to the natives—£100 in
cash and merchandize.
Nature of conveyance—Four deeds in favor
of claimant.

Government directs it to be notified that
the following claim to land in this Colony has
been referred to the Commissioners appointed
under the Ordinance of the Governor and Coun-
cil of New Zealand, 5th Victoria, Session 2, No.
13, by being in addition to the claims notified in
the Government Gazette of New South Wales,
as referred to the Commissioners appointed
under the Act of the Governor and Council of
that Colony, on the 9th November, 1840, and
on the 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th March, and
the 6th, 18th, 20th, and 27th April; and in the
Government Gazette of this Colony, on the 18th
August, and 13th, 20th, and 27th October, 20th
November, and 1st, 15th, and 22nd December,
1841; and 5th January, 28th March, 11th,
14th, and 18th May, 22nd June, 28th Septem-
ber, 12th October, 9th November, and 7th
December, 1842.

The above Claim is therefore added to the
List of Claims to be Investigated at my Office,
in Auckland, as published in the Supplement to
the Government Gazette of the 12th of April,
1843.
