NOTICE OF HEARING.
Land Commissioners Office,
3d April, 1843.
I EDWARD LEE GODFREY, a Commis-
sioner appointed to examine and report
upon Claims to Grants of Land in New Zealand,
do hereby give notice, that I shall proceed to
Investigate the following Claims, at my Office,
in Auckland, on Monday the 17th of the present
month, and following days, at 10 o'clock in the
forenoon.
All parties interested are hereby summoned
to be in attendance, with their witnesses and
original deeds and documents, and copies thereof,
(with translations if in Maori), the latter to re-
main with the Commissioner; and Claimants
are reminded, that the fee of five pounds must
be paid to the Commissioner before the investi-
gation of any Claim, or of any opposition
thereto.
The sittings of my Court will be continued at
Auckland, for the purpose of receiving evidence
upon the under-mentioned Claims, until the 1st
day of July next, after which date no further
Investigation of the said Claims will take place.
The Claimants are also hereby informed, that
if they do not, by themselves or an authorised
agent, exhibit Evidence in support of their
Claims to the Commissioner, at the above-men-
tioned place, during the period stated, the
said Claims will be reported upon, and no Grants
recommended.
Case No. 94—ROBERT S. GIRDWOOD, of Syd-
ney, claimant.
600, Six hundred acres, on the island of
Waihehe, commencing on the south-east side of
the island at a point called Opatia, and running
one quarter of a mile along the beach to another
point called Opuhi, and from each point to run
north-west by west to the low water mark on
the north-west side of the island.
Alleged to have been purchased from the
native chiefs Ruinga, Rupenga, and others,
in 1838, by William Webster, who sold to
claimant.
Consideration—goods to the amount of £450
for the whole purchase.
Nature of conveyance—deed dated 8th May,
1838.
Case No. 258 d—WILLIAM DERBY BRIND, of
the Bay of Islands, claimant.
300, Three hundred acres, called Onahunga,
on the River Thames.
Alleged to have been purchased from the
native chief Namera, on the 31st October,
1839.
Consideration—goods, value not stated.
Nature of conveyance,—Deed in favor of
claimant.
Case No. 425—J. BARROW MONTEFIORE, of
Naanima, claimant.
2, Two acres in the harbour of Kawhia, being
a point of land in form of a gunners quoin.
Alleged to have been given to claimant by
the native chief Hotoguea, on the 1st Nov.
1830.
Nature of conveyance—not stated.
Case No. 431—JOHN VICTORIA COWELL, of
Kawhia, claimant.
40,000, Forty thousand acres on the banks of
the Waipa, in the district of Waikato.
