CONTRACTS FOR THE COLONIAL SER-

VICE FOR 1842.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Auckland, 30th January, 1842.

NOTICE is hereby give that TENDERS
will be received at this Office until Monday
the 21st February, next, at noon, for furnishing
for the Colonial Service, the supplies undermen-
tioned, in such quantities as may be required dur-
ing twelve calendar monthe, commencing the 1st
March, 1842, upon the conditions hereafter speci-
fied.

PROVISIONS.

No. 1.
Ration for Officers in charge of Surveying par-
ties when in the field.
1½ lb Flour,
1 lb Meat,
2½ oz Sugar,
1 oz Tobacco,
½ oz Tea,
½ oz Soap.

No. 2.
Ration for Men attached to the Surveying Party,
1½ lb Flour,
1 lb Meat,
½ oz Tea,
-3 oz. Sugar,
pa Tobacco,
½ oz Soap,
1 Gill of Rum,
1 Gill of Oil, (weekly.)
This scale of Rations is also applicable to Boats
Crews,

No. 3.
Ration for Prisoners confined in Gaol.

24 oz Bread.
(Β.)
4 oz Meat,
12 oz Bread,
12 oz Maize Meal,
1 oz Soap,
1 oz Salt,
8 oz Vegetables.

12 oz Meat,
12 oz Bread,
8 oz Maize Meal,
½ oz Soap,
½ oz Salt,
8 oz Vegetables.
Ration A. is applicable to Prisoners confined in
Lock-up or Watch Houses.
Ration C. is issued only under the special order
of the Sheriff.

Fuel and Light.
Firewood, per 100 lbs.
Sperm Oil, } per Imperial gallon,
Common Oil,
Mould Candles,
Dip Candles,
Cotton Wick,
} per lb.

No. 5.
Forage for Horses and Oxen.
12 lbs Maize.

No. 6.
Ration for the Crew of Her Majesty's Coloni
Brig "Victoria."
1 lb Biscuit,
1 lb Meat,
½ lb Flour, (with salt beef,)
½ lb Peas, (with salt pork,)
1½ oz Suet, or 2½ oz Raisins, (with flour)
3 oz Sugar,
½ oz Tea,
1-14 Pint of Vinegar,
1-14 Pint of Oatmeal,
(A.)

Ration for Passengers on board the Government
Brig.
1 lb Meat,
½ lb Flour, (with salt beef,)
½ lb Peas, (with salt pork,)
1½ oz Suet, or 2½ oz Raisins
3 oz Sugar,
½ oz. Tea,
2½ oz Sugar,
Women -Children ½ of the above Ration.

Ration for Natives while on board the Government
Brig.
Flour or Biscuit 1 lb
Sugar 3 oz

CONDITIONS.

All the articles required by this Notice are to be
of the best quality of their several kinds.
Vegetables to be supplied in reasonable propor-
tions of potatoes, greens, pumpkins, onions, &c. &c.
The supplies to be delivered on the requisition
of the Head of the Department for which they
are authorized.

The Supplies (not specified in the preceding par-
agraph) are to be delivered direct to the parties or
Establishments entitled thereto, on the written
order of the person duly authorised for the purpose.

In the event of a difference of opinion between
the Contractor and the party receiving the sup-
plies, as to the quality, the same is to be decided,
in cases where the article is not of a perishable
nature, by a Board of Survey, according to the
practice of the service.

If the Board shall decide that the article is not
of a proper quality, it must be immediately re-
placed by the Contractor, failing of which it will
be procured by the Department requiring it, and
the expense charged to the Contractor.

In the event of any unnecessary delay or failure
of the Contractor to supply the articles when
required, they will be otherwise procured in like
manner.

In cases where the article is of a perishable
nature, or from some other cause, injury would
be sustained either by the parties to whom the
Rations are due, or to the Contractor, by waiting
for a Board of Survey, the head of the department
shall have power to reject such article or articles
as are obviously of inferior quality; it being dis-
tinctly understood that he will be responsible to
the Government for so doing; and that the Con
