NOTICE.

Auckland, 20th July, 1842.
I N consequence of the impossibility of com-
municating with Wellington, in time to
enable the Official Functionaries at that settle-
ment to give effect to the Proclamation under
date the 27th May last, His Excellency the
GOVERNOR, with the advice of the Executive
Council, has been pleased to direct that the
period for submitting claims to vote in the elec-
tion of the first Council of the Borough of
Wellington, be extended to the 30th day of
August next, and that the said Proclamation be
promulgated afresh, with the afore-mentioned
alteration.

PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency WILLIAM HOBSON, Esq.,
Captain in Her Majesty's Royal Navy,
and Governor and Commander in Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony in New
Zealand, and its Dependencies, and Vic-
Admiral of the same, &c., &c.
W HEREAS, by an Ordinance enacted by
the Governor of New Zealand, with the
advice and consent of the Legislative Council
thereof, Session II, No. 6, entitled "An Ordi-
nance to provide for the establishment and regu-
lation of Municipal Corporations," it is enacted,
that every Settlement within the Colony, having
a population of Two Thousand Souls, shall be a
Borough, and that His Excellency the Governor
shall by Proclamation declare the same to be a
Borough within the meaning of the said Ordi-
nance, and shall at the same time, with the ad-
vice of the Executive Council, define the boun-
daries thereof.
And whereas, it is also enacted, that His Ex-
cellency the Governor shall by such Proclamation
as aforesaid, prescribe a period within which all
claims to the right of voting at the election of
the first Council shall be made, and shall appoint
a fit person to receive such claims, and to act as
returning Officer at such election.
And whereas, the Town of Wellington contains
a population of upwards of Two Thousand souls.
Now, therefore, I, the Governor, in pursuance
of the provisions of the said recited Ordinance,
do hereby proclaim the said Town of Welling-
to be a Borough within the meaning of the
said Ordinance. And I do hereby, with the
advice of the Executive Council, define and
declare the boundaries of the said Borough of
Wellington, to comprise all Lands within the
line set forth, in the Surveyor's Plan, as the
outside boundaries of the Public Reserve, in the
plan of the Town of Port Nicholson, approved
by His Excellency the Governor, and so much
of the Harbour as are comprised within a radius
of seven miles, from the Market-place at Pall
Pipitea, described in the said plan.
And I do hereby also declare, that all claims
to the right of voting at the election of the first
Council of the Borough of Wellington, shall be
made before the thirtieth day of August, 1842;
and I do appoint Michael Murphy, Esq., to re-
ceive such claims, and to act as returning
Officer at such election.
