THE attention of the Heads of De-
partments is particularly called
to the necessity for sending in to the
Office of the Colonial Secretary early on
Saturday, whatever is intended for pub-
lication in the Government Gazette on
the ensuing Wednesday, as non-atten-
tion to this rule has in some instances
delayed the publication of the Ga-
zette.
Heads of Departments are further
requested to cause the Government
Gazette to be carefully filed in their
respective offices, as they will be
expected to transfer that document,
with the other Records, to their suc-
cessors in Office.

HIS Excellency the GOVERNOR directs it to
be notified, that all persons having occa-
sion to write on business to the Governor, are
to address their Letters to the Colonial Secretary,
or they will be returned.
Confidential communications may be sent di-
rected to His Excellency, marked "Confiden-
tial."

PROCLAMATION
By His Excellency WILLIAM HOBSON, Es-
quire, Captain in Her Majesty's Royal Navy, and
Governor and Commander in Chief in and over
Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its
Dependencies.
WHEREAS by a certain Ordinance of the
Governor, with the advice and consent of
the Legislative Council of the said Colony, passed
in the 5th Year of the Reign of Her Majesty
Queen VICTORIA, intituled, "An Ordinance
"for establishing County Courts of Civil and
"Criminal Jurisdiction, and for repealing an
"Ordinance for instituting Courts of Requests,
"Session 1, No. 6, and for repealing part of an
"Ordinance for establishing Courts of Quarter
"Sessions, Session 1, No. 4," it is enacted, that
from and after the 1st day of March, one thousand
eight hundred and forty-two, there should be
holden within the Colony of New Zealand County
Courts of Record, possessing Civil and Criminal
Jurisdiction, in manner thereinafter provided.
And whereas it is further enacted by the said
in part recited Ordinance, that His Excellency
the Governor, with the advice of the Executive
Council, should from time to time appoint a place
or places within each County or District, as the
case may be, whereat such Courts shall be
holden.
And whereas it is further enacted by the said in
part recited Ordinance, that in every County or
District a Court should be holden, monthly, on the
third Tuesday of every month;
NOW, therefore, I, the Governor, in pursuance
of the power and authority in me vested by
the said in part recited Ordinance, do hereby,
