HIS Excellency the GOVERNOR di-
rects it to be notified, that the
NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT GA-
ZETTE will be published officially on
WEDNESDAY in each ensuing week,
commencing on WEDNESDAY next, the
7th day of July.

The Heads of the several Depart-
ments will be pleased to observe, that
it will be necessary to transmit to the
Colonial Secretary, by twelve o'clock
on Saturday, whatever is intended for
publication on the succeeding Wed-
nesday.

PROCLAMATION.

By HIS EXCELLENCY WILLIAM HOBSON,
ESQUIRE, Captain in Her Ma-
jesty's Royal Navy, and Go-
vernor and Commander in
Chief in and over Her Majes-
ty's Colony of New Zealand,
and its Dependencies.

WHEREAS, by a certain Ordinance of the
Governor, with the Advice and Consent
of the Legislative Council of the said Colony,
passed in the 4th and 5th years of the Reign of
Her Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled, "An Or-

"dinance for instituting Courts of Civil Juris-
"diction to be called Courts of Requests, in dif-
"ferent parts of the Colony of New Zealand,
"and its Dependencies," it is amongst other
things enacted and ordained, that from and after
the passing of that Ordinance, Courts of Civil
Jurisdiction, to be called "Courts of Requests,"
should be holden at and in the following Towns
or places, in the respective Townships and Dis-
tricts to be included therein, under the provisions
therein before contained, that is to say, at the
Towns or Districts of Auckland, Port Nicholson,
and Russell, in the said Colony, such Courts to
be holden at such times at the said several Towns
or places as the Governor for the time being,
should by any Proclamation to be issued for that
purpose, from time to time direct and appoint.

Now, I, the said Governor, in pursuance of
the power and authority so vested in me by the
by the said in part recited Ordinance, do hereby
direct and appoint that the said Courts of Re-
quests shall be holden during the present and in
each year, at the several and respective places,
and on the days and times hereinafter respectively
mentioned, that is to say, at Auckland on Tues-
day, the seventh day of September next, and on
the first Thursday in the month of October in the
present year, and on the first Thursday in the
respective months of January, April, July, and
October, in each future year. At Port Nicholson
on the first Tuesday in the month of October in
the present year, and on the first Tuesday in the
respective months of January, April, July, and
October, in each future year. At Russell on the
last Thursday in the month of October, in the
present year, and on the last Thursday in the re-
spective months of January, April, July, and
October, in each future year; and at such other
times as the respective Commissioners of the said
Courts of Requests shall, by adjournment, deem
it right and necessary to hold the said Courts be-
