NOTES.—(a) The Returns for Auckland refer only to the country within a radius of fourteen miles of the Town. The numbers given of acres in crop and of uncultivated land refer to the purchased land in the occupation of the Settlers, and not to the Waste Lands of the Crown. The number of Acres granted by the Crown within the whole District of Auckland is 71,138, and the total granted within the Province 273,606 acres.

(b) This number includes, besides Hay, other Crops not distinguished in the Return from New Plymouth.

The extensive crops of Wheat, &c., raised by the Natives of Kaitaia, Otawhao, Bay of Plenty, &c., and the Stock belonging to them, are not included in this Return.
