BOROUGH OF AUCKLAND.

Auckland, November 25th, 1851.

HIS Excellency the LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR directs it to be notified for general information, that on TUESDAY, the 18th instant, pursuant to the Provisions of the Charter of Incorporation, the following Burgesses were elected Common Councillors of the Borough of Auckland :—

Edwin Davy, merchant, East Town Ward.
Archibald Clark, draper, Middle Town Ward.
Patrick Dignan, publican, West Town Ward.
Frederick Ward Merriman, solicitor, Suburban East Ward.
Augustus B. Abraham, lawyer, Suburban South Ward.
James O’Neill, settler, Suburban West Ward.
Samuel Norman, publican, Onehunga Ward.
Theodore M. Haultain, staff-officer, Panmure Ward.
John Annesley Hickson, staff-officer, Otahuhu Ward.
Alexander McDonald, staff-officer, Howick Ward.
Joseph Newman, farmer, Epsom East Ward.
William Powditch, settler, Epsom West Ward.
William Innes Taylor, farmer, Tamaki West Ward.
William Mason, farmer, Tamaki East Ward.

His Excellency further directs it to be notified that on SATURDAY, the 22nd instant, the Common Councillors of the Borough, after having taken the oath prescribed by law, elected

ARCHIBALD CLARK, draper, of the Middle Town Ward, to be the MAYOR of the said Borough for the ensuing year ; and,

PATRICK DIGNAN, publican, West Town Ward ;
JAMES O’NEILL, settler, Suburban West Ward ;
WILLIAM POWDITCH, settler, Epsom West Ward ;
WILLIAM MASON, farmer, Tamaki East Ward,

to be the ALDERMEN of the said Borough for the ensuing year.

His Excellency the LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR having delivered the following Address, presented to the Common Council the Charter of Incorporation by which the District of Auckland has been erected into a Municipality.

ADDRESS.

MR. MAYOR AND GENTLEMEN,—

As you have now become qualified to enter upon the discharge of your official duties as the Representatives of the newly-constituted Body Corporate, I avail myself, with pleasure, of the earliest opportunity to deliver into your custody, to be preserved amongst the records of the Borough, the Charter of Incorporation by which the District of Auckland has been erected into a Municipality.

The Deeds of Transfer necessary for conveying to you the Lands set apart as Endowments towards the support of the Institutions to be entrusted to the management of the Corporation, will be placed in your possession so soon as your Town Clerk shall be appointed, or some other person shall be authorized to receive the same, and the several sums of money applicable to the maintenance of these institutions will, as they become due, be paid into the hands of the Treasurer of the Borough, when an officer shall have been appointed by you to act in that capacity.
