Auckland, October 10th, 1851.

HIS Excellency the LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR directs it to be notified, for general information that he has authorized the sum of seven pounds eleven shillings to be paid to the natives named Te Kawau and Karipa, for their laudable exertions to save the passengers of the Government Cutter “Maori” when it was unfortunately upset by a sudden squall on the 7th instant.

His Excellency further directs to be placed on record, his deep sense of regret at the melancholy loss of Mr. David Smale, Master of the “Maori,” Mr. Piers Geale and Mr. Benjamin Donne, who were drowned on the occasion above alluded to.

Auckland, 10th October, 1851.

TENDERS, in duplicate, will be received at this Office until noon of Friday, the 24th instant, from persons desirous of contracting for the erection of a WATER TANK in Official Bay.

Specifications may be seen, and further particulars obtained, upon application to the Clerk of Works, Royal Engineer Office.

Colonial Secretary's Office,

Auckland, 11th October, 1851.

TENDERS in duplicate will be received at this Office until noon of Friday, the 24th instant, for the supply of HAY, for the service of the Colonial Government, in such quantities as may be required, from the 1st of November to the 31st of December, 1851.

The Tenders should state the price per ton at which the Hay will be delivered at the Government Stables in Mechanics' Bay; and must be sealed, and endorsed “Tender for Hay.”

Any further information may be obtained at the office of the Superintendent of Public Works.

IMPOUNDED at the Public Pound, Hobson's Bridge,

a strawberry or red and white spotted Bull, no brand legible, cocked-up horns, and about four years old. Also, a red Cow, cocked-up horns, branded “B” off rump.

Also, a strawberry Heifer, about two years old, no brand legible, small horns. Also a red and white Bull, small horns, age about 15 months, no brand legible.

If not claimed, will be sold at the Pound, at noon of the 27th day of Oct., 1851.
