LIST OF CONTRACTS for the Six Months terminating 31st December, 1851.
Blacksmith’s Work.—Contractor, J. McLeod.
Prices.—Horses shod, at per month, 2s.; house and cart work, per lb., 5d.; men’s wages, per day, 4s.; ship work, per lb., 5d.
Firewood.—Contractor, Patrick Coyle.
Prices.—Cut and split to suit fire-places, per ton, 8s. 9d.
Painting, Glazing, and Plumbing.
Contractor, W. Tattersall.
Prices.—Painting, per yard, 1 coat, 3½d., 2 coats, 7d., 3 coats, 8½d.; stopping with putty, per yard, 2d.; painters’ wages, per day, 5s.
Plumbing: flashing and gutters with 4lb. lead, per foot, 2s. 3d.; ditto, with 5lb. lead, 2s. 7d.; soldering joints, &c., per inch, 4d.; new leather to pumps, each, 1s.; new bucket, &c., 3s.; quarry lights, including fixing, per foot, 3s.; plumbers’ wages, per diem, 6s.; labourers’ ditto, ditto, 4s.
Glazing, per dozen, 2s; glass, per dozen, 16x14, 10s.; 16x12, 10s.; 14x12, 10s.; 14x10, 6s.; 10x12, 6s.; 10x8, 6s.; 6x7, 6s.; skylights, per running foot, 1s.
Provisions for Hospital.—Contractors, J. Simms & Co.
Prices.—Fresh Beef or Mutton, per lb., 6d.; pork, 4d.; bread, fine, 3¼d.; potatoes, 1d.; tea, 2s.; sugar, 4d.; oatmeal, 3d.; arrowroot, 8d.; sago, 8d.; rice, 4d.; salt, 1½d.; soap, 4d.; vegetables, mixed, 1d.; candles, dip, 6d.—Brandy, per 2 gallons, 30s.; port wine, ditto, 26s.; porter, ditto, 14s.—Milk, per quart, 4½d.; vinegar.
