Land Reservations and Appointments




Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, 12th November, 1850.

HIS Excellency the Governor-in-Chief has directed it to be made known for general information, that he has granted and caused to be marked out and distinguished on the Charts of the New Zealand Islands, the undermentioned Land, being part of the Demesne of the Crown, as Reserved Land, for the purpose of the construction and maintenance of Lodging Houses and Stores, or Market Places, where Her Majesty’s Native subjects and other persons visiting Onehunga may temporarily reside, free of charge, with their goods and wares, and there dispose of such produce as they may bring from the country for sale; and further, that such "Reserved Land" aforesaid will be vested in the Colonial Secretary, the Attorney General, and the Colonial Treasurer, for the time being, to be held and administered by them in trust for the benefit of the said Institution.

THE Trustees of the College and Grammar School Reserved Lands, being empowered to lease the undermentioned allotments or parcels of Land, for any term not exceeding twenty-one years, are willing to treat for the disposal of the same on reasonable terms; persons desirous of renting the said allotments, or any of them, are required to make application in writing, addressed to the Trustees of the College and Grammar School Reserved Lands at this Office.

IN pursuance of the 20th Clause of the Resident Magistrate’s Ordinance, I do hereby select and appoint the following persons of the Native Race to be Assessors along with the Resident Magistrate at Mangonui, for settling disputes between persons of the Native Race; that is to say —

Puhipi, of Pukepoto, Chief of Rarawanui.
Popota, of Maungatiti, Chief of Kaitote.
Mokoari Kokatia, of Parengarenga, Chief of Aupori.
Hohepa Poutama, of Pukewhau, Chief of Ngaitakoto.
Nopera Panakarau, the principal Chief of the district north of Mangonui.
