Public Notices

SPECIAL MEETING of the Justices of the Peace, for the Town and District of Auckland, will be holden at the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Auckland, on Tuesday, the Third day of September next, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, for the purpose of receiving applications for the Transfer of Publicans’ Licenses.

Edward Barry,
Clerk to the Magistrates.

Resident Magistrate’s Court,
Auckland, Aug. 3, 1850.

Civil Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, 27th August, 1850.

HIS Excellency the Governor-in-Chief has directed the republication, for general information, from the New South Wales’ Government Gazette, of the following Notice:

By His Excellency’s command,
C. A. Dillon, Civil Secretary.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Sydney, 28th May, 1850.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

His Excellency the Governor has directed the republication, for general information, from the Port Phillip Government Gazette, of the following Notice, relating to the Light at Shortland’s Bluff, and the course for entering the Port Phillip Heads.

By His Excellency’s command,
E. Deas Thomson.

TO MARINERS AND OTHERS.

SHORTLAND’S BLUFF LIGHT-HOUSE.

His Honor the Superintendent directs it to be notified, for general information, that a “New Fixed White Light, of ten around class,” consisting of 16 lamps, is now exhibited at the Bluff, in place of the former light of 9 lamps.

This light will be exhibited from sunset until sunrise.

The necessary alterations of the column for the erection of the new lantern have not occasioned any change in the original height of the light.

Henry Ginn,
Clerk of Works.
Melbourne, May 1st, 1850.

NOTICE.

One of the editions of the Chart of Port Phillip, made by Captain Hobson, of H. M. S. Rattlesnake, and the first edition of the Chart published by Captain Stokes, of H. M. S. Beagle, containing a serious misprint in the bearing laid down as the course for vessels entering the Port Phillip Heads, Masters of vessels should be very careful in examining their Charts, and altering, should they give the bearing of north-east by east (N.E. by E.). Such a course must inevitably carry vessels pursuing it from the outside, directly upon the point Lonsdale Reef.

The proper course for entering the Port Phillip Heads is north-east by north (N.E. by N.).

Superintendent’s Office,
Melbourne, 7th May, 1850.
