HIS Excellency the Governor-in-Chief has been pleased to appoint
CAPTAIN THEODORE M. HAULTAIN,
of the Royal New Zealand Fencibles, to be a Justice of the Peace for the Province of New Ulster.

On and after the 1st of November, 1849, the Pilot’s communications from vessels approaching this Port, their names, or numbers, and any other intelligence conveyed by means of Marryat’s Signals, will be repeated at the Signal Station on Mount Victoria.
The Flags which have hitherto been used to indicate the rig of vessels steering for the Port, and the signal of distress, will continue to be used; but the following communications will be made by means of the Flags of Marryat’s Code:
No. 1. Blue Square on a White Ground — the vessel is from New South Wales
No. 2. Blue, White, and Blue (horizontally) — from Van Diemen’s Land
No. 3. White and Red (perpendicularly) — from South Australia
No. 4. White Cross on a Blue Ground — from Western Australia
No. 5. Red (Swallow Tailed) — from Wellington
No. 6. Blue, Yellow, and Red — from Middle Island

NOTICE is hereby given, that a Licence has this day been issued to
Mr. WILLIAM HART, of Queen-street,
Auckland,
to exercise the business of Auctioneer in New Zealand, until the 24th day of April next.
