HIS EXCELLENCY the Governor-
in-Chief directs the publication of
the following notices connected with the
Marine Survey of the New Zealand
Islands, which have just been received
from Capt. Stokes, late of H. M. S.
Acheron.
By His Excellency’s command,
Alfred Domett,
Colonial Secretary.
The Acheron’s plan of Port Nicholson
shows the position of two Rocks in Chaf-
fer’s passage, which materially affect its
safety as a ship Channel. They are two
thirds of a cable from each other in a
Magnetic N. 43 W. direction. The
inner rock is a wash—the outer, of
which the following bearings shew the
position—has 8 feet on it at low water
spring tides.
North dry rock on Barrett’s Reef, S.
33 E. Magnetic—distant 3 2-8 cables.
High Water extreme of Point Dorset
N. 33 E. Magnetic 3 1-5 cables.
Outer extremity of Reef attached to Point
Dorset N. 82 E. Magnetic, 3 3-4 cables.
