PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency Sir George Grey, a Knight Commander of the most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, and Governor of the Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance passed by the Governor-in-Chief of the Islands of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, intituled, “An Ordinance for regulating the Conveyance and Postage of Letters,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor-in-Chief from time to time by Proclamation to be published in the Government Gazette to make and establish all such Rules and Regulations as to him may seem expedient for promoting the safe and expeditious conveyance and delivery of all Mails, Letters, Newspapers, and other papers.

And whereas by a Proclamation dated the 21st December, 1859, certain regulations for the purposes aforesaid were made and established by which persons were enabled to send letters to and from places beyond the seas, and letters to and from the Governor, letters on the public service, or to and from any of the Government offices or departments.

And whereas it is intended to establish uniform postal arrangements throughout the whole of the British Colonies and Possessions with respect to Printed Books, Magazines, Reviews, and Pamphlets; and it is expedient that the regulations to be established in that behalf be consolidated with the regulations made by the Proclamation aforesaid.

Now therefore, I, the Governor-in-Chief, in pursuance of the power and authority in me vested by the said in part recited Ordinance, and under and by virtue of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, do hereby revoke the aforesaid Proclamation of the 21st December, 1859; and all regulations and rates established by the same are hereby abolished and repealed.
