COMPARATIVE STATEMENT of the Estimated Value of the Imports and Exports of New Zealand, during the years 1848, 1849, 1850:—

The apparent increase in the Imports and Exports for the year 1849 is to be accounted for by a ship (the General Palmer) having, from damages sustained at sea, been obliged to run into Port Nicholson, and discharge her cargo (of tallow) into the Martner, which vessel conveyed it to its destination. Also, (with regard to Exports) by specie to the amount of £20,000 having been forwarded to Great Britain and included in the return.
