line drawn across the island from Doubtful Harbour, to the point where the Southern boundary of the settlement of Otakou strikes the Eastern Coast of the Island, shall be called the district of Otakou, and shall be the district of the Deputy-Registrar thereof for all intents and purposes.

District of Foveaux Straits.

All that part of the Province of New Munster not included in any of the districts hitherto proclaimed (comprising Stewart’s Island, or New Leinster, the islands in Foveaux Straits, and all other islands adjacent to that part of the Middle Island included within this district) shall be called the district of Foveaux Straits, and shall be the district of the Deputy-Registrar thereof for all intents and purposes.

Given under my hand, at Government House, Wellington,
in the Province of New Munster, in the said Islands of New Zealand, this twenty-ninth day of November, in the year of Our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency GEORGE GREY, Esq.,
K. C. B., Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, and Governor of the Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c.

WHEREAS the undermentioned Ordinance, enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, was passed in the eleventh year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, viz.:

No. 10. “An Ordinance for promoting the Education of Youth in the colony of New Zealand.” (October 9th, 1847.)

Which Ordinance having been by the Right Honourable Earl Grey, one of Her Majesty’s Principal Secretaries of State, laid before the Queen, Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to confirm and allow the same:

Now therefore I, the Governor-in-Chief of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and make known to all whom it may concern, that Her Majesty has been pleased to confirm and allow the beforementioned Ordinance.

Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Islands of New Zealand, at Government House, at Auckland, in the Province of New Ulster, this eighth day of November, in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-eight.

“An Ordinance for indemnifying the Officers of Her Majesty’s Forces and others, for all acts done by them under certain Proclamations of Martial Law.” (Oct. 14th, 1847.)
